Physical therapy assistants most likely work in therapy centers and cares for individuals who’ve disabilities and accidental injuries. They’re continually in the assist from patients who’re harmed in incidents and have undergone surgical procedures. Besides accident victims, physical therapy assistants also aid persons who have innate disabilities and persons who develop body pain due to long functioning hrs. Arthritis, illnesses allied with knees, back pain, head injuries and paralysis. By assisting such type of patients, they help in assuaging the pain and bring them back to its ordinary state of mind.

The physical therapy assistant jobs requirement take in functioning with patients as well as medical professionals. If they’re working in a hospital, they may be under the strict supervision of the medical doctor. Generally, nearly all of them work along with physical therapists. Aiding these therapists will be the key obligation of an assistant. It really is the responsibility of the chief therapist to observe a long-suffering and decide what method of medication and what method of treatment is simplier and easier for a enduring. However the physios will unavoidably require the services of an supporter to help him work smoothly. The assistant should then carry out the diagnosis on the long-suffering as per the orders of the physios.

Physical therapy assistants work in very difficult working environments. Their career requires them to be physically as well as mentally robust. From moving the long-suffering around to feeding them, the job of a physical therapy assistant is actually awkward. Yet, for those who have interest in social welfare and nursing the poor, that is definitely a satisfying area. They get quite good amount as wage and have the benefit of quite a lot of benefits from the management and private health institutions. People with better communicative expertise can labor as good physical therapy assistants, still if they are made to work under great labor stress. Diet and Weight Loss http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/diet-and-weight-loss/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=diet-and-weight-loss http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/diet-and-weight-loss/#comments Tue, 10 Apr 2012 06:42:53 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=1136 Diet refers to the sum of food that is consumed by an organism. Another terminology related to diet is dieting. This means the deliberate selection of foods in order to control body weight.  It is essential to consume the right kinds of food in order to lead a healthy life. We need to eat the right kind of foods in order to meet calorie requirements and essential nutrients and vitamins.

To lead a healthy life, one must always try to eat a healthy and balanced diet. Your everyday diet should contain the right quantity of vegetables, fruits and meat. Eating plenty of green leafy vegetables is also equally important. This will help a great deal in developing immunity and body resistance. If you eat the right kind of foods, you can control your weight or rather, maintain the right body mass.

Diet control is for people who are obese. There is a general misconception that pure vegetarian life style is the best. In fact, it is very important to consume all foods in the right amount. If you follow a strict and well balanced diet, you can avoid dieting. Eating low fat meat and consuming red meat in the right amount will only lead to better healthy body.

There is no need to avoid meat and fish. Another aspect to healthy diet is proper cooking of foods. Healthy recipes and healthy foods are what we must consume. Over cooking foods will only result in losing their essential vitamins and nutrients. Vegetables should always be semi boiled or sufficiently boiled. Always try to avoid spices and heavy food colors. These only reduce the quality of your foods.

Over heating and re heating foods, further deteriorates food quality. Refrigerating foods and then heating them before consuming is also not a good method. This will also result in nutrients being lost. Similarly, frozen foods should never be re frosted once they are kept outside the refrigerator. This will lead to serious indigestion problems.

All these are minor points that can create a great impact in our living style.  Concerning weight loss, first and foremost one needs to understand all about maintaining the right body mass. Body Mass Index can be calculated and one should set realistic diet according to this. Many people go for diet pills. The problem with diet pills is that they do not offer long term weight control and moreover, they may even create side effects like nausea and headaches in rare cases.

Slow weight loss is considered the best for long term weight loss. The problem with short term diets is that they do not help you out in the long run.  For optimum weight control, it is considered best to practice aerobic training with weight training. As far as diet restrictions are concerned, it is extremely important to consume low fat foods and junk foods.

Junk foods not only make you obese, but also lead to illness and body problems in the long run. Always understand that vegetarian diets need not be healthy always. What is of prime importance for weight reduction is the right combination of diet, exercise and attitude.

Some Important Tips to Lose Weight http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/some-important-tips-to-lose-weight/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=some-important-tips-to-lose-weight http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/some-important-tips-to-lose-weight/#comments Tue, 10 Apr 2012 06:42:45 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=1135 Obesity is the one of the main health problems of Americans. A survey conducted stated that around 64 percent of the American population is suffering from obesity problems. Losing weight cannot be done overnight since there are no miracle drugs available from the market. However, if you make some changes in your habits and life style you will be able to accomplish your goal of losing weight.  Some of following tips can be of great help.

If you eat junk food on a regular basis, it’s time to avoid it. Most of the efforts that you put for reducing weight will become futile if you are unable to resist consuming processed junk foods. The junk foods such as pizzas, burgers, potato chips etc. are of poor nutritive value. Keep in mind that you will not physically improve feeding on those food items. A better way is to replace these foods by highly nutritious foods in your diet. You may avoid sugary and greasy food since they contribute weight gain.

If you don’t have the habit of drinking water, start it now. Drinking water not only purifies your body, it also promotes loss of weight. You may be confused how it works. Drinking plenty of water flushes the toxins and unnecessary fats from the colon. On the other hand, it prevents dehydration of the body. If the body is dehydrated, physiological process in the body does not happen normally. For instance, the body’s fat won’t be burned quickly as well as your muscle strength will loosen.  The next thing you can do to burn down your fat is to increase the frequency of meals each day but only in small quantity. You have to maintain a regular interval of 4-5 hours in between meals. This will suppress appetite as well as boost your rate of metabolism thereby causing to burn excess fat in the body without doing much physical exercise.

Reduce you calorie consumption. You need not to starve to achieve this. This can be done by consuming diets in small quantities. This approach can help you to cut down frequent snacking and binging. A very effective measure of weight loss is physical workouts. When people hear about workouts they think about long hours of vigorous physical exercises. But simple workouts will be quite enough to shed down your excess fat. Workouts increase the metabolic rate and burn fats within less time. Daily exercise will boost your stamina as well.

Adequate sleep is very effective and quick weight loss tip for obese people. It is one of the most effortless ways. Research has found that lack of sleep causes extreme hunger and improves one’s appetite. This results in over eating. Sleeping for a period of 8 hours can be a very effective measure to reduce your weight

There are many weigh loss supplements available from the market today. One such supplement is the Acai Berry Select. It contains large amount of antioxidants that helps to flush out toxins from the body. For quick and better results, it has to be combined with a proper balanced diet and exercise.

Human vitamins for plants? http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/human-vitamins-for-plants/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=human-vitamins-for-plants http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/human-vitamins-for-plants/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 11:06:50 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=964 The story goes that my Mom had gotten indigestion from pre natal vitamins and was pretty fed up in general when pregnant with me. She tossed the vitamins out the front window into a planted bed and the climbing roses made it up the trellis onto the roof with prolific and large blooms. My Godfather claims they were tinged with additional color and never grew as well in following years. As for my opinion? take the vitamins yourself and pee on the compost. I don’t know what the “obvious comment” is and I don’t know what you mean by the plants can’t use it, or it’s inefficient.

I live in one of the most, if not *the* most, intensely agricultured areas in the U.S (with a very great variety of both food and horticultural crops), and the farmers/nurserymen, who are not known to spend unneccessarily, are quite intensive users of micronutrient sprays, the main one available locally being KeyPlex. I take my cue for home gardening from them, use it on everything, and have great health and vigor throughout the garden. Not only that, but the plants are so naturally strong, that I have needed no pesticides whatever. Sure, the bugs chew things, but ultimate damage is insignificant.

With vitamins you’re dealing with dollars per milligrams such that even a small box of expensive Miracle Grow will be hundreds of times cheaper. IOW, use of multi-vitamins from your typical $8.00 container might be a kind (although extravagant) gesture for a house plant but is far less likely to revolutionize agriculture :) I didn’t say they were human vitamins. I said if you want to give vitamins to plants, the way to do it is with micronutrient foliar sprays. It goes without saying that such would be formulated for the nutritional needs of plants. We do happen to have intractible soil problems in my region. In the words of one soil analyst “the only thing we don’t need is calcium”.

Experience with dieting http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/experience-with-dieting/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=experience-with-dieting http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/experience-with-dieting/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 11:06:28 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=852 In 1978 from like Aug to Nov. I went on a diet for the 1st real time in my life. I ate NOTHING but Weight Watchers frozen dinners & drank diet soda waters. When at school for lunch I would eat of one those ol soy hamburgers just to get me thru the day. I would also run one lap around the track out back each day before gym class began & I had incredible success from this diet. But then you know Thanksgiving hit & I went off it. Then in 85 I was mired deeply with credit card debt. So for about 2 months all I could really afford to eat was red beans & rice. Couldn’t afford beer even. Went from 215 to 180.

Eventually I recovered financially & starting eating better & put it back on. Wouldn’t really recommend the Debt Diet tho. Nowadays I try to watch what I eat by avoiding fatty foods even tho I still love em. I weigh 265 which is down from 285. I had been in the 280′s for a few years. I still eat bread. In fact a lot of it but I ONLY eat 100% whole wheat bread. None of that white for me. Same for rice. About the only white colored food I eat is oatmeal which I love. I get plenty of exercise at work as it is a physical job. In the end now matter what diet you use you still have to do some sort of exercise.

Atkins is a bit difficult at first because of the drastic carb reduction. For the first 5 days I was miserable,I had a constant headache that Tylenol couldn’t touch,I couldn’t think straight,I was dizzy,I was shaky and I felt weak….some diet! Then on day 6 all of those things magically disappeared. It was as if a veil had been lifted from my brain. Suddenly I felt great and I had tremendous energy. Getting through that first week transition period is the hardest part, physically. After that the weight will begin to drop off in copious amounts.Throw in a little bit of moderate exercise and you will be amazed at how quickly your weight goes down. Then the mental battle begins.

You may have read that Atkins doesn’t require willpower? ,wrong,it does. Do you *really* want those cookies?…will you actually die if you don’t have some french fries right now?,willpower becomes paramount. After a few months you may not even desire carb laden foods,I don’t…..well,most of the time I don’t. Now and then I just chuck the low carb idea for a day and eat whatever I want; but then the next day I get right back on the wagon. I started Atkins back on May 1st of this year,I weighed 285 # at that time. So far I’ve lost and managed to keep off 60#,but I still have another 40# to go.

Cataract surgery and vitamins http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/cataract-surgery-and-vitamins/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cataract-surgery-and-vitamins http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/cataract-surgery-and-vitamins/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 11:03:45 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=1053 I had a vitrectomy with retinal membrane peeling in January. The operation caused cataract growth in the operated eye (right eye). I now am having a cataract operation. The pre-operation instructions were to discontinue taking supplements of vitamins A, D, E, and K two weeks before the operation. I believe this is for all cataract surgery patients. (I am having the operation done at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins.) In an email, I asked the surgeon why, and he replied that these vitamins can cause bleeding. He is talking about high dose supplements, for example 400 I.U. of vitamin E.

I can understand how high doses of vitamin E might cause a decreased ability to clot, but I cannot understand the proscription against taking the other vitamins. In fact, my understanding is that even the stopping of taking warfarin before cataract surgery is somewhat controversial. There’s a section in my ig booklet that contains a table listing some vitamins and minerals found in about 150 fruits and veggies. The problem is that we really don’t know the exact nutritional requirements of iguanas. I included the table so that people could get a feel for which veggies are nothing but water, and which actually contain something worth eating.

My understanding is that oranges are not particularly good for iguanas. Ever since I bought my first ig, I’ve heard that one shouldn’t offer oranges. Never got a definitive answer why, though. As for books, I pored through the books and the only one I found that mentions phosphorus at all is called “Food Values of Portions Commonly Used” by Jean A. T. Pennington. For fruits and veggies, it lists calories, water content, fat, cholesterol, protein, carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fats, saturated fatty acids, dietary fiber, vit A, vit C, vit B2, vit B6, folic acid, vit B1, niacin, vit B12, pantothenic acid, sodium calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, iron and copper. This book is $15. As I said, it’s the only one I found that lists phosphorus in veggies, which is what I wanted at the time for Ca:P ratios. I dunno the answer to the coconut question. Seems like I’ve heard somewhere that coconut shouldn’t be fed to igs, but don’t take me at my word! I may have dreamt it.

Easy vitamin for those who hate pills http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/easy-vitamin-for-those-who-hate-pills/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=easy-vitamin-for-those-who-hate-pills http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/easy-vitamin-for-those-who-hate-pills/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 11:03:40 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=1052 My wife and I both participate in a multivitamin study conducted by Dr. Kenneth Cooper. I feel comfortable taking these because I believe in the institution behind it. Its pretty hard to find a more credible organization than the Cooper Clinic. I believe the pills themselves to be of outstanding quality too. Dr. Cooper is doing a massive study in association with several high profile clinics that would indicate that a correct vitamin level will significantly decrease heart attack and strokes, especially in compulsive athletes. There is a wide body of study to support this, he is now trying to prove it.

The vitamin industry is not impressed because most of what Dr. Cooper finds to be missing from a persons life style is easily corrected by diet changes. Personally, I haven’t noticed much difference. But my wife, who had high cholesterol problems, had a very significant lowering of her cholesterol in the first three months. And, she claims her fingernails are less brittle. Although I can’t say that I got a PR because of vitamins and so on, I am convinced that overall I am in better shape. I haven’t had a cold since I started the program 6 months ago.

Since they seem to improve my overall body conditioning I am sure it has some effect on my competition as well. I’ve been taking GNC’s Men’s Mega (or is it Mega Men’s?) multi-vitimins and minerals since May and have definitely noticed that I feel better/stronger/peppier since I started. I’ve been setting PRs all year, but think the vitamins may only be a little part of this. I had always pooh-poohed taking vitamins, going with the line that a good diet would supply everything I need. But then a top runner in our running club chewed me out for not taking a multi-vitamin, especially when training for Ironman. He contended that giving the heavy training I was certainly not getting everything I need from my diet.

I thought about it, and recognized that my diet was not what it should be and that multi-vitamin would not “hurt” in any case, according to what I could find in the literature. (My reading suggested that vitamins from food might be somehow better than vitamins from a pill–but that vitamins from a pill were better than not getting them at all.) I am no lover of pills, nor do I have any interest in “health foods” (though, I do eat “healthy”). Given this, I take a “Muti” and an additional C, plus: Chromium Picolinate, and Siberian Ginseng. My experience is that I have far fewer colds, during IM training/racing when I keep up on my vitamins. Some may dispute my claims with credible evidence, but I have gone back and forth – vitamins, no vitamins – the difference has been a cold.

Anyone taking multi-vitamins? http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/anyone-taking-multi-vitamins/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=anyone-taking-multi-vitamins http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/anyone-taking-multi-vitamins/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 11:03:35 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=1051 I have been taking some stuff can Juice Plus. Scientifically, I am not much on what is really there. I take 2 in the morn and 2 in the evening. It has been 4 months and (very unscientific information to follow) I have done some darn good racing. Including first place in an age group bi Sunday! They are gelcap and you have to swallow them with a meal. I am not a distributor, don’t have any to sell, make no money from the product and I don’t even work with the guy that sold it to me. I just want to go fast. I use a multi-vitamin called Myadec put out by Parke-Davis. One tablet a day.

I eat a balanced diet and probably get all of the necessary vitamins but just take the pills to be sure. I’m on the side of the studies that discourage using pills to exceed recommended daily allowances. If I want to load up on vitamin C, I’ll do it with citrus fruit. I use Juice Plus, too. Rather than a vitamin in the usual sense, Juice Plus is made from a broad range of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can do capsules (2 veggies and 2 fruits per day) and/or a powder that works like a more traditional supplement.

The powder has all of the stuff that the capsules do, but comes in a chocolate or vanilla flavorings that I mix with yogurt and fruit. For example, mix a couple of scoops of the powder with strawberry yogurt, frozen blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, and 8 oz of skim milk, and you get a massive shot of antioxidants and micronutrients in a good tasting breakfast. I can make it, eat it, and clean up the kitchen in 15 minutes, too. The company’s research says that the body absorbs the nutrients better when they come in whole form, so this is the next best thing to eating a bunch of different fresh fruits and veggies, some of which would be hard to keep fresh.

One possible downside is that to get it, a distributor has to set you up with the company. The best way is to be a preferred customer; the company will ship a 4-month supply to you then bill you in 4 installments and you get a better price right from the start. If you don’t need to change the order, you never have to talk to the distributor again. I got a distributor license from the company just to set up myself, family, and friends, and I do the preferred customer thing with them so that they get the stuff they need at a good price and I don’t have to mess with inventories or turn this into a part-time job.

Cheapest place for vitamins http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/cheapest-place-for-vitamins/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cheapest-place-for-vitamins http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/cheapest-place-for-vitamins/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2012 11:03:32 +0000 admin http://www.afghanistanchallenge.ca/?p=1050 Anyone who does a moderate amount of research on vitamins and has half a brain or more will come to the conclusion that taking vitamins and other supplements will make you live longer, and live healthier longer. Cutting-edge supplements like alpha-lipoic acid, lycopene, tocotrienols (from Vitamin E), etc. are anti-oxidants that will make you healthier and which the average American is not getting from her diet. Granted, one should eat all the fresh veges one can, and eat a moderate amount of fresh fruit as well. But even if you do this you aren’t going to get the carcinogen-protective doses of anti-oxidants you need to combat today’s heavily polluted, chemical-laden food and water and air.

I’ve found for vitamins. They seem to be of high quality and they have great customer service and every couple of months they have a “buy one – get 2 free” deal. When they have a 2 for the price of one deal, wait a few weeks and they’ll have the 3 for the price of one deal. By the way, I’ve been taking mega-doses of vitamins for 25 years, and I am sick a lot less often than most people, no one can believe my actual age, and I have never had any symptoms from “taking too many vitamins”. I used to think that, I have several editions of the Nutrition Almanac lying around here somewhere, I heard the same things about taking estrogen and living longer and healthier too.

Then I noticed some researchers used the other half of their brains on the estrogen question and thought it might be a good idea to check out the theory. The WHI study was the result. For the cutting edge, cutting edge information on extending life read this week’s news about resveratrol. but I wouldn’t change your drug order yet, this is all still in the hope stage, same as the other cutting edge supplements you mention.. Do you like wines from New York? In response to your dichotomy of food products or food choice.

Actually people *are* not so subtly encouraged to eat foods like Total and/or take a multivitamin so that they won’t have to worry about a proper diet. Every time I see the ad for Total with it’s full day’s supply of vitamins in one bowl, I wonder why anyone would think it necessary to eat his/her full day’s vitamin requirement in one meal. The proliferation of fad diets like low carb of course mandates that one take multivitamins since one’s access to healthy foods from various food groups has been strictly limited. The logic of a diet that’s so healthy that it needs supplementation with pills quite escapes me.
